NOISE AT WORK
• Exposure to noise can cause tinnitus (ringing in
the ears), and long-term affects that are
irreversible;
• As a rule of thumb, if you have to shout at
someone at 2.0 metres away there are noise
at work issues;
• At 80 db(A) hearing protection has to be
available;
• At 85 db(A) hearing protection must
be worn and warning signs displayed of the
need for mandatory hearing protection;
• Provide information on noise at work risks to
employees.
• At 87 db (A) hearing protection must be worn
and the company shall take the necessary
measures to reduce noise exposure and
consult with employees;
• Typically where abrasive wheels will be used,
wearing of hearing protection is mandatory;
• If you see another worker coming in close
proximity to where noisy operations are
undertaken, ADVISE THEM TO WEAR
HEARING PROTECTION.
