Ladder usage

                 • Ladders on site can only be used as a last resort, for light,

short duration, low risk works where 3 points of contact can
be maintained and a scaffold, MEWP, tower is not practical.
                 • Do not make the mistake that ladders can be used for short
duration light works! Only in circumstances where after

every other option has been explored can a ladder be
                      considered.
        3. Working at Height
                 • The Supervisor and HSE must risk assess the task before
considering the use of a ladder.
                 • Ladder usage must be pre-approved by the supervisor, HSE

and Jacobs HSE before use of a ladder. Special access to
height permit must be used for this purpose.

                 • All ladders must be of fiber glass construction if used in
electrical rooms or around electrical panels.
                 • Ladders and stepladders do not offer protection from falls

and therefore the user must be securely harnessed to a
                      safe, agreed anchor point.

                 • All ladders must have a unique ID number which is related
back to the weekly inspection form.
                 • Overshoes should not be worn on ladders where they

                      present a risk of slipping.
                 • Never straddle an A frame ladder or work off the top 2 steps.
