Storage of gas cylinders
• Store cylinders in a well-ventilated, covered area, preferably in
a cage outside on a level, well-drained surface. Cage must be
locked and only authorized personnel are permitted to access
the area.
• Gas cylinders should not be stored in the building overnight or

when not in use, where possible.
• If they can’t be removed, shut off the main valves when
finished welding, bleed the lines and loosen the regulator
adjusting screws.
• Wind up the hoses when finished, shutting everything off.
• Store cylinders vertically and securely to prevent them from
toppling.
• Store full and empty cylinders separately, rotating your
cylinder stock holdings so the oldest cylinders are used first.
• Display warning sign and signage indicating type of gas being
stored.
• Segregate different types of gases, including empty cylinders
to different cages. Ensure suitable distances are followed for
storing LPG away from other cylinders.
