Page 24 - How Sophie Grumble Guts Got Her Name

At first, when they went
on walks - Sophie couldn’t
walk as far as the other
dogs. She was very small
and was not used to going
out walking. She had no
muscles or stamina. The
Dogmother very often had
to carry her when she
couldn’t go any further.
Over time, she became
very fit and could out walk
the other dogs!
As she came out of her shell, she
also developed a very BIG
personality. She would grumble
and growl and snarl when she was
upset and if she had her nails cut
or something else she didn’t like,
she’d want to kill something (very
often a toy). Her mum called her
Feral Beryl when she did this.
She’d say “there’s no need to go
all Feral Beryl about it!”
She could be a bit bossy with the
other dogs (who were all much
bigger than she was) and she was
very vocal when she didn’t like or
approve of something - so she
earned the additional title of
Team Union Rep.
