2. Educational Foundation

This study begins with the boundaries of Minang
customs. The Minang customs referred to in this study are the

customs used or adopted by the Minang community after the

Padri war (ended in 1837) or the so-called traditional
reconstruction period which was marked by reconciliation

between indigenous peoples and religious groups. This
reconciliation resulted in a basic principle of adat, namely adat

basandi syarak, syarak basandi Kitabullah. Therefore, the
basis and purpose of Minang adat education is also the basis

and purpose of Islamic religious education.

The basis of customary education cannot be separated
from the basis of belief in Islam and the purpose of human

creation according to Islamic teachings. According to the
               word of God:

                     a. The basis of belief in Islam is that Islam is the true
                         religion. Surah Al-Imran verse 19:

                                         ْ
                                                                      َّ
                                                                          ٰ

"Indeed, the true religion with Allah is
                         Islam."(Surah 3:19)
                     b. The basic essence of human creation is that humans
were created to serve Him. Adz Dzariyat verse 56:
                                                                   ْ
