neighboring countries. In general, Minang people carry out

economic activities (trade). The action of the Minang people
leaving their hometown is called marantau. Migrating is a

spontaneous movement, especially out of the Minang realm as

an attempt to change fate for the better. This is inspired from
               the Qur'an Surah Ar Ra'd verse 11:
                                                          ْ
                           ُالله َدا ا ا ا ىَّتَح ا َ لَ َالله ِالله ْ نِم ِهِفل ْ نِمو ِهْيَدَي ٌتا هَل
                                                                         ُ
                                                               َ
                                                                ُ
                                                    لا ِهِنود مُهَل ا هَل َ لَ اًءوُس
                                                         ُ
                                                           ْ
"God does not change the fate of a people, unless
                     he himself changes it"(Surat: Ar Ra'd: 11)

It is clear in the teachings that by marantau one can gain
new knowledge and experiences that are useful for him. The

traditional Mamangan that encourage Minang people to seek
knowledge and experience, leave their hometowns.

                                 babuah babungo balun,
                                 single marantau first,

means: Keratau madang upstream, has not yet flowered, left the children first,
at home has not been useful.
