CHAPTER 4

                                               RESULTS PRESENTATION

               4.1 Introduction

This chapter presented the analysis of data and the discussions of the research findings. The
findings were related to the research questions that guided the study. Data was analysed to identify,

describe, and quantify the challenges student teachers encountered in teaching poetry in English

               as a second language.

               4.2 Response rate

The total sample size targeted by the study was 8 respondents and of which the study was able to

get a response rate of 8 respondents which translates to 100%. According to Mundy (2002), the
percentage of responses necessary would probably differ according to the type of study. For this

study, the good response rate was attributed to the fact that the researchers used an easy method of
data collection whereby the questionnaires were filled and then picked up immediately. The good

response rate was attributed to the willingness of the respondents to take part in the study.
However, the study further acknowledged that the COVID-19 pandemic affected the response rate

to some extent due to the state of emergency regulations.

               4.3 Demographic information
Demographics comprise an array of socioeconomic information, including the breakdown of a

population by gender, age, ethnicity, income, employment status, homeownership, and even
internet access. Demographics offer a generalization of a particular geography's population, based

on a sampling of people in that geography. For this study, demographic analysis covered aspects

such as gender, age, mode of study, and type of school for teaching practice.

               4.3.1 Gender of the respondents
The gender of the respondents was assessed as part of the demographic information. Figure 1

shows the gender proportion of the respondents.
