               Getting a promotion






               Park: Fortunately, our public transportation system is very efficient. Our national transportation
                  is almost always on time.

               John: Well, that’s Korea and its people.
               Park: By the way, at World, we heard about your promotion six months ago from the technical
                  department and vice president in charge of planning. Congratulations! We were all happy to
                  hear about it.
               John: Thank you very much! I got it mainly because of our rapid rise in productivity. My recom-
                  mendation that we install your company’s robots was also a huge plus.
               Park: Thank you very much for your compliment.
               John: You could almost say that my promotion was due primarily to World, to you, and to my
                  inquiry about your products.
               Park: I’m sure you wouldn’t have done it too without your hard work and efficiency. Of course,
                  World is so happy to be working with you. Thank you for your trust! We always wish the best
                  for the people we work with.








               1.  What are your company’s bases for promotion?


                  Sample answer:
                  Our promotion is based on several factors, but primary among these factors are hard
                  work, efficiency, and exemplary performance. We have special awards for employees
                  with perfect attendance and no record of tardiness. Big profits or productivity is also
                  a basis for promotion.


               2.  Are  you  satisfied  with  your  company’s  promotion  scheme?  Why  or  why
                  not?


                  Sample answer:
                  I already am, but it can still accommodate some enhancements. I think the promotion scheme
                  should also be explained well to all the employees, so that more people will be motivated to
                  do well. In addition, I think that the process of promotion should be transparent. People should
                  know why a certain person has been promoted.

               3.  What can you recommend to further enhance the promotion scheme of your
                  company?
