Unit 2
Let’s plan for the opening.
Ted: Ben thanks for coming. Let’s start planning for the opening of the next meeting.
Ben: Alright. As always, the Chairman will say the opening remarks.
Ted: Right! I’ll inform him as soon as we’re done with this consultation.
Ben: Ok, good. What comes after that?
Ted: Well, we have some new members to introduce.
Ben: Oh, right. Lisa and Tom have to be introduced. Should we perform the introduction? We
also have to introduce Lin who will be replacing Ester.
Ted: Has Ester gone on maternity leave already? I didn’t know that!
Ben: Yes. Lin will be taking down the Minutes of the meeting this time.
Ted: Okay, so after the introduction, we need to take attendance.
Ben: Well, it is a small group. I think I can handle taking attendance since I know all the partici-
pants.
Ted: That’s settled then. By the way, has anyone signified that he/she can’t make it?
Ben: No one contacted me. There’s none that I know of.
Ted: I see. That’s good then!
Ben: Finally, there’s the presentation of the meeting’s objectives. We’ll be using the LCD projector
for that. As for the content, we’ll just be continuing what we discussed last time.
Ted: I can take care of the PowerPoint presentation. I just have to consult the Minutes from our
last meeting. I can handle the explanations as well.
Ben: That’s good to hear! Well, I think that sums it up.
Ted: Alright! I think we’re all set.
Ben: I’ll find a venue and inform you as soon as I can.
Ted: Okay. Thanks so much!
1. Do you have prior experience in opening a meeting?
Sample answer:
Yes, I do it all the time as Head of the Marketing Department. Whenever we need to
discuss or evaluate Marketing strategies, we have meetings and I always do the open-
ing for these.
