Unit 3
The rush on the business negotiation
Yoon: How soon can you make the shipment for the order No. 1894? Will the shipment get to us
in time for the new year? It will be a very good start for us if we get them before the new year
starts.
Smith: Let me see…I have to figure out the exact shipment date right now. It might take some time
before I can give you a date, Mr. Yoon. I have to look at our computer system and double check.
I think I can get back to you tomorrow.
Yoon: Can’s we rush this matter, Mr. Smith! We need to know the date now. We might be inconve-
nienced by this delay. I hope you’ll understand our situation.
Smith: What’s the rush on the business negotiation? Don’t forget the old saying “Haste makes
waste”! We should double check everything. I think you realize the importance of reviewing
matters, Mr. Yoon.
Yoon: I admit that’s true, but I have to report this matter to the Seoul headquarters within this
week. We also need to prepare other documents because the date can guide us in setting dead-
lines. It all depends on that. It will really be a big help if you can rush this matter. What I’m
asking you to do is so easy after all.
1. How do you cope with the demands of clients regarding rushed shipments
or negotiations?
Sample answer:
We accommodate their requests if we can. However, there are times when we have to turn
down their order placements and refer them to other shippers.
2. How do you deal with the busyness of work? How do you handle the hectic
schedule and the long hours of work?
Sample answer:
We keep ourselves fit and healthy. We also budget our time well and we train ourselves to do
multi-tasking. We also take some rest and do recreational activities from time to time. If we
have the luxury of time and money, we unwind after work.
3. With all the rush involved at work, how do you make sure that the work done
is reviewed or double-checked?
