keenly to his voice.
1. Your business proposal has been turned down by a prospective business
partner. Your agent has relayed the situation to you and has mentioned the
probable reasons why the client backed out. However, you suspect that your
agent is keeping some information from you. Talk to your agent and ask
probing questions to elicit the truth from him.
Sample answer:
You briefed me on the reasons why Mr. Jackson backed out from the deal. I regret his decision
because we were so close to finalizing the deal. I know you did your best to seal the bargain,
and you already explained Mr. Jackson’s apprehensions. However, I feel that something is still
missing in the whole story. I hope that you will be very candid with me. You can trust me, and I
will do my best to look at things objectively. Some things are not making sense in the story you
told me. I need to know everything, so that we can do our best to improve this company.
2. You’re not happy about the treatment that your company is getting in a
business deal. Present the reasons below as you honestly explain what you
think.
a. Unfair division of profit
b. Unreasonable demands by the partner company
Sample answer:
As the company representative, I have to be very honest with you about what the company
feels about this deal. We hope that you will take this as objectively as possible. We feel bad
about getting the lesser share in the profit. We think that we should be getting percentages
in the profit, especially because we put in the same percentages in investment. Also, we have
been doing our best to patiently deal with your demands. However, we have noted that some
of them are not even reasonable anymore. These things do not seem professional and neces-
sary anymore. They are just whims of some of your people. We hope that you can look into this.
In the meantime, we want to re-consider our partnership until the situation has improved. I
hope you understand our situation.
