Unit 6
Can’t agree with it
Yoon: Our export business seems to be soaring these days, isn’t it?
John: Yes, it is. I think it’s a very good trend. That’ll greatly improve our economy, won’t it?
Yoon: Well, I don’t know so much about this kind of trend. I think things don’t seem to be that
simple. This may just be a superficial manifestation of something more profound. I hope that
good things will follow; nevertheless, we have to be prepared for any financial eventuality.
John: What do you mean? Could you please explain?
Yoon: Even though our export business seems to be favorable these days, we can’t guess what it
will be like in the very near future. We have to learn from the financial crises we had in recent
years. We have to make wise investments and study our options.
1. Would you consider your business as stable at the present time? Why or why
not?
Sample answer:
Yes, I think it is. Our profits are gradually increasing every term and we have good growing
investments in different ventures.
2. Is your business prepared to handle a sudden financial crisis?
Sample answer:
At the moment, I can say that it can handle a financial crisis. However, this may also depend on
how bad the financial crisis is. We know that we are stable, but a very bad crisis can also make
a dent on our financial stability.
3. Are the times favorable to the business world, to your particular business?
Sample answer:
Yes, it is. I think the pleasant business climate for our particular venture is one reason why we
are enjoying a gradual increase in profit. Overall, the time is ripe for certain business like elec-
tronics and other things related to technology.
