With the emergence of new technology, businesses have taken advantage of oppor-
tunities to have international linkages. In some cases, people cannot meet face-to-
face and this is where audio conferencing comes in. It is a convenient way for people
to communicate and discuss ideas.

1. You have a foreign friend that you met on the Internet. How will you form a
bond with your friend considering you have different cultures and beliefs?

Sample answer:
I will initiate an exchange of information about each one’s culture. It’s nice to learn
more about another country’s culture and to understand their faith and insights. Ac-
ceptance and mutual respect are the major factors in forming a better relationship,
especially if their culture is radically different from ours. Keeping an open mind is a
must.

2. You and two colleagues are on an audio conference with representatives of
the biggest investors in your company. They are Americans so you know that
they would prefer a straightforward discussion, however your colleague is
beating around the bush.

Sample answer:
I would try to get the discussion back on track by being more direct, so we would not
linger on less significant topics. The American investors may get impatient if we spend
more time on unnecessary matters. It is important to be perceptive and to understand
other people’s culture. This way we can establish rapport and cultivate mutual respect
for each other.
