               A tougher shipping arrangement

Yoon: Now that exports to the United States have markedly increased, arrangements for shipping
are not easy. It has become especially difficult to find a cargo carrier at this time.
Adams: Is that so? Do you think this will affect the delivery of my items in any way? I hope that’s
not the case because I really need to have our orders delivered on time. A late delivery can
jeopardize our business with other clients. That will surely be bad news.
Yoon: Don’t worry, Mr. Adams. Universal Corporation will keep the delivery date firm according to
your request. We have anticipated this problem, and we have made special preparations, so
that our clients will not be affected by any major changes.
Adams: I do appreciate your efforts, Mr. Yoon. It’s such a relief to hear that assurance. I don’t want
to be in the middle of a mess. I also hope that you will insure proper packing of our products,
Mr. Yoon. We can’t afford to have any damage in our items. We want them in perfect condition
upon delivery. Any replacement for any damaged product will affect our business.
Yoon: I’ll certainly accommodate your request, Mr. Adams. Our packing standards are very strong
and strict so that you will be satisfied enough to place repeat orders. You can be assured of
                  that, Mr. Adams.

               1. Have you ever encountered shipping problems? How did you solve them?

                  Sample answer:
Yes, we have encountered shipping problems a couple of times. The ship that had our cargo
was delayed by a storm. The delay caused us to lose an important deal. Anyway, we learned
from that experience. Nowadays, we include contingency measures in our planning. We also
have Plan B’s in case our original shipping plan doesn’t work. We consider other alternatives
like delivery by air, by land, etc.

               2. How do you protect the quality and provide safe handling of your shipped
                  items?

                  Sample answer:
Our choice of packaging and handling is influenced by the nature of the product to be shipped.
We always take care of the items as if they were ours. We don’t scrimp on the materials we use
for packaging, and we have officers who check the safety and proper handling of the products
                  in storage and during transit.

               3. How does shipping arrangement fare compared with air transport/deliv-
