Baiturrahman Mosque: After the Tragedy
The Indian Ocean Tsunami archives are stored in Indonesia and Sri
Lanka, containing more than 9,308 linear meters of textual
archives, 1,868 photographs, 52 audio cassettes, 1,206 electronic
CDs/DVDs, and 36 videos.
The National Archives of Indonesia holds the largest collection
documenting the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Aceh and
Nias in various fields, while the Aceh Provincial Archives has 1,402
photos and 21 videos from television, local government, and the
community that directly recorded the tsunami and the recovery
process. In Sri Lanka, the archives include personal photographs,
official reports, and two videos about the tragedy. This entire
collection bears witness to a great loss, global solidarity, and the
spirit of a community rising again. Due to its significance to the
world, this archive has been designated as part of the Memory of
the World by UNESCO in 2017 by Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
