The archives of the First Summit Meeting of the Non-
Aligned Movement hold a historic account of how Third
World countries united during the Cold War. This meeting
was an important turning point, as it provided a platform
for newly independent countries to voice their opinions,
reject colonialism, imperialism, and racism, and promote
the creation of more just and equal international
relations. This gave rise to the concept of “free and
independent relations,” which became the new
foundation of world diplomacy.
More than just documents, these archives are tangible
evidence of how small and newly independent countries
can help determine the direction of world peace. From the
opportunity to deploy UN peacekeeping forces to building
solidarity against tensions between the Eastern and
Western Blocs, the impact is still felt today. These
archives serve as a reminder that the spirit of unity,
freedom, and social justice is a valuable legacy that
remains relevant, especially for countries still struggling
to find a path to development and peaceful cooperation in
the modern era.
