SUKARNO'S
SPEECH
" T O B U I L D T H E W O R L D A N E W "
Indonesia
Sukarno's speech “To Build the World Anew” at the United
Nations in 1960 became a symbol of the courage of newly
independent countries in facing the Cold War. Sukarno
emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and
asserted that Asian and African nations newly freed from
colonialism deserved an equal place on the world stage.
From this thought, the Non-Aligned Movement was born.
The message in that speech remains relevant today.
Although the world has changed significantly, conflicts and
divisions still occur in various parts of the globe. Sukarno's
appeals for peace, unity, and justice continue to resonate,
making this archive of speeches a valuable legacy for
present and future generations, as well as a reminder of the
significant impact a leader from the “third world” can have
in shaping world history.
