Procedure
1. Place sterile basin containing solution in the basin of ice
2. Wring compress using the forceps or gloves
3. Place compress an affected area
4. Apply binder and secure with safety pins
5. Change often enough to keep the area cold.
6. Clean & return Equipment

4.12 Enemas
Definition: An enema is the injection of a liquid into the rectum, to be returned or
retained. The term enema is associated with the cleansing, which is given for emptying
the rectum & the lower colon. However, enemas also are used for other than cleansing
Purpose
The Purpose of the enema guides the physician in selecting the type and amount of
solution to be used and wither the solution is to be retained or explained.
The fundamental reasons for giving an enema
1. To empty the colon
2. In case of constipation
3. Before operation on the colon or pelvic organs like the bladder or uterus.
4. Any other kind of operation depending upon the Physician's wash.
5. To supply water or to give drugs in solution
6. For diagnostic Purposes e.g. Ba enema,
