Procedure
1. Carry Equipment to the bedside and explain the Procedure to the patient.
2. Place the patient in a comfortable position
3. Remove dressing and place in the basin
4. Cleanse the area if there is any discharge. Protect bed
5. Wring dressing from solutions (with forceps if open wound)
6. Apply sufficient solution to keep moist for some time.
7. Cover with waterproof material and wrap with a towel.
8. Fasten securely in place with roller bandage or binder.
9. Moisten every 34 hours at least and more often necessary.
10. It must be kept moist at all times. If compress is not continuous
11. It should be changed every 5-10 minutes.
12. To keep the compress warm, a hot water bottle may be placed on top of the compress.
Tepid sponge (Alcohol sponge)
A tepid sponge bath is sponging the skin with alcohol or cool water to reduce the
temperature.
Equipment
1. Wash cloth
2. Bath basin with tepid (Luke-worm) water and alcohol (one part of alcohol three parts of
Luke-worm water).
3. Face towel
4. Bath towel
5. Bath blanket, if available
6. Clinical thermometer try
7. Rubber sheet
Procedure
1. Take Equipment to bedside
2. Replace the cloths with a bath blanket if available
3. Take the patient's temperature, plus, and respiration.
4. Remove patient’s gown
5. Sponge the body using the wash cloth alternately
6. Use light strokes. Do not squeeze the wash cloth and sponge each part two to three
minutes.
7. Change the washcloth as often as necessary.
8. Check plus and temperature frequently and report any changes.
9. Put on a clean gown
10. Put on covers and straighten the bed
11. Make patient comfortable
