punch using proper mechanics to develop a higher level of
accuracy.
To better understand, let’s start with a simple exercise as a
basis of reference. Get into your boxing stance so that your
dominant hand throws a cross. When ready, throw a cross
and keep your arm extended. Take note of your position
here.
At the end of this punch, you might notice one of three
things:
You are leaning too far over your lead foot: This is also
known as overextending and “falling forward” in the
direction of your target. This also causes being off balance.
While some of the force is absorbed by the target upon
connecting, the impact and power of the punch is reduced.
This is because active tension in your forward-leaning body
causes you to reach the target more slowly; it is an
inefficient use of energy and effort.
