On-vehicle inspection

1. Inspect the free play of the steering
wheel
(a). Keep the vehicle still.
(b). Align the steering wheel and make the
front wheels straightly ahead.

(c). Turn the steering wheel slowly from side
to side and inspect the free play of the
steering wheel.
Free play: ± 10°
If the free play is beyond the limit value, inspect
relevant parts. (Refer to “chapter 41 steering
mechanism-steering mechanism, malfunction
symptom table”)
Then, inspect the maximum steering angle of the
front wheels and adjust it if necessary. (Refer to
“chapter 24 front axle-front wheel alignment,
adjustment”)
