Rear axle- Driving gear assembly
(i). Remove the inner ring of the inner
bearing from the driving gear with a
puller.
(j). Disassemble the elastic damping ring
with spring pliers and sharp-nose pliers.
Notice:
The elastic damping ring removed can’t be
used again.
(k). Remove the inner ring of the pilot
bearing from the driving gear with a
puller.
HINT:
Remove the outer ring of the pilot bearing after
removing the differential and the pilot bearing
baffle.
3. Inspect the driving gear
(a). Inspect the tooth surface damage and the wear of the driving gear.
Repairing is needed if slight damage is found on the tooth surface.
scuffing, peeling, spot corrosion, cracks or excessive wear such as defects the defects are
found on the tooth surface, replace with a new driving gear.
25 (b). Inspect the wear of the driving gear bearing journal and the elastic damping ring groove.
If serious damage is found, replace with a new driving gear.
Notice:
The sets of driving gear and driven gear must be replaced together.
4. Assemble the driving gear assembly
(a). Press the inner ring of the pilot bearing
on the driving gear and apply gear oil on
it.
Gear oil: GL-5 85W/90
(b). Install the elastic damping ring with
spring pliers and sharp-nose pliers.
Notice:
A new elastic damping ring must be
replaced to ensure install it into the groove.
