The Birth of Park 1

Relieve Martial Law and Historical Space, the Rise of Museum Parks

The museum park phenomenon that first appeared in Taipei was the Taiwan Museum located
in the Taipei 228 Peace Memorial Park, built during the Japanese occupation. After the
relief of martial law in 1987, the relief of the historical space in the 1990s happened too. The
museum parks became popular. After the introduction of the "New Museology" in the 1980s,
there were also many parks in Taipei that were combined with the local historical context or
relics, transforming to an exhibitive theme park. For example: Today Hakka Culture Theme
Park (formerly Children's Transportation Museum), Taiwan's first historical park - Zhishan
Cultural History Park (Zhishan Rock Cultural Site), 228 Peace Memorial Park (formerly
Taipei New Park, the establishment of the 228 monument), and The official residence of
Shihlin (weekdays are strictly guarded) now open to the public as flower park, the Mengchia
park (formerly Wanhua 12th Park), is planned as a folk park, build the Zhongshan Fine Arts
                     Park.
