The Birth of Park 1
Taiwan, they became places for resettlement. Over the years, contradictions between historical
emotion and visual conflicts have formed. Until the 1990s, considering urban renewal, disaster
prevention and safety, and going through a fierce demonstration, the land relocation and
demolition and the building of the park were completed in 1994 and 1997 respectively.
Park and Green Space Is an Indicator of Modernization
Either the citizen and NGOs protesting regarding the relocation of 269 old trees due to the
reconstruction of Children's Transportation Museum into a Hakka theme park in 2009, or
the nature wetland rescue act on the" 202 Military Factory of Armaments Bureau of Ministry
of National Defense" regarding to preserve the last large green space in Taipei, all kinds
of public opinion and actions reflected the urban residents who are highly urbanized and
internationalized, they need more parks and green spaces and public open spaces in addition
to democracy, economic prosperity, and convenient living. Compared with the past, the names
and types of urban parks had become more diverse. Either the planning method or the usage
of the park, there was a change. Since the controversy of the construction of the stadium in the
7th Park (now Daan Forest Park) in 1988, It was obvious that people began to pay attention
to the meaning of "nature" in a park, and the voice of the people was heard through various
channels. In addition, there were many issues in the community movements that emerged in
the 1990s that regarding community parks, people’s interest and involvement in park affairs
were increasing. The opinions and needs of the public in the park planning are becoming more
and more prominent. It is already an era that we can see "civil park" everywhere.
