Dear Lions Club Officers and Members,
Attached for your information and use is a summary of the Lions MD 20 Grant Proposal to support Project

"IDEAS" (Improving Diabetes Education Access & Support) and program budget.

This grant proposal is intended to improve diabetes education and support in underserved communities
throughout NY State. The grant will provide for training (Introductory course on diabetes, and training for self-
care behaviors) for 3 paraprofessionals from each district. Our district will be provided with 2 laptops
preloaded with diabetes related materials. Added materials include diabetes cookbooks, exercise resistance
bands, portion control plates, and other diabetes related items.

A centralized IDEAS website for MD20 will be created and dedicated to ongoing diabetes education, and
public awareness for people with Pre-diabetes and Diabetes, and all Lions Club members. The website will
be accessible to both Lions and community members. Also, in an effort to best serve those in our
communities, educational materials in multiple languages will be provided.

It is estimated that 4.5 million New Yorkers are affected by Pre-Diabetes, and many do not know they have it.
It is noted that the COVID 19 pandemic has created an even greater need for support among those living
with pre-diabetes and diabetes as people have lost their jobs causing increased financial hardships and

       growing mental health concerns.
All New York State Districts have been invited to participate. The grant requires matching funds; the

estimated commitment of our district (our portion of matching funds is $5,625.00).with an amount of
$1,406.25 due by January. 2022 (actual district commitment will be made o/a Dec 15th).

As club officers and members, your support of this initiative is encouraged and welcomed. Donations of $50,
or $100 or more are suggested. In a special cabinet meeting held Dec 2nd, 2021 District 20-K1 voted
unanimously to support this critical health initiative. Thanks in advance for your support.
