GLOBAL CAUSES
alleviating HUNGER
AROUND DISTRICT 20-K1
The month of November is now observed as National
Veterans and Military Families Month and that coincides
with Thanksgiving celebrations.
District 20-K1 Hunger Committee chaired by Lion Ann
Alleyne, hosted a Pre-Thanksgiving Feeding on
November 13, 2021, for the residents at the Bedford
Atlantic Armory (Shelter), located in the Crown Heights
neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York.
The dedicated Lions gathered at 7:30 a.m., at the
Bushwick Center to begin filling the food containers with a
delicious meal and all the Thanksgiving trimmings,
including dessert, water and juices. Approximately 250
containers were prepared, loaded into a rental truck and
transported to be served outside the Armory where
additional Lions were standing by to begin the distribution.
After the Armory residents and “walk-up patrons” were
served, the remaining meals were distributed to various
other shelters.
It was indeed a successful event as Lions from various
clubs eagerly served from the heart. “Growth Through
Service………Teaming Together” really works in District
20-K1. The committee values the collaboration from
Midwood, Bedford Stuyvesant, Central Brooklyn, Crown
Heights, New Lots, Stuy Park, Starrett City, East New
York, Metropolis, Farragut, Jefferson, Vanderveer Park-
Glenwood, Rising Stars and Richmond Hill SOP. We
appreciate the “teaming” from Lions Mari Morimoto and
Rik Ito ( New York Japanese American Lions Club) and
Leo Skye Stone (Stuy Park).
Lion Ann Alleyne is grateful for all contributions to this
Feeding Project. A very special thank you to Lion Michael
Yansen (Crown Heights), who provided breakfast and
Lion Veronica Franklin-Simon (Crown Heights), who gave
access to her place of employment for the preparation and
packaging of the food containers. We also express our Photos by Lion Yolande Cadore
appreciation to Lion Romeo Hitlall (RHSOP) who donated
a large quantity of hand sanitizers.
