FROM IMAGINATION TO SUCCESSFUL PRODUCT LAUNCH
equipment including offices were in old aeroplane
hangars. The walls were made from undulating fibre
cement boards and gave off that cement smell no matter
what it was painted with. As you can imagine, the roofs
of the buildings were extremely high, given that the old
Dakota DC3 and DC4 aeroplanes were parked there for
repairs and storage after the war.
I managed to build a raised platform office in the middle
of the factory that overlooked the entire production and
manufacturing sections. We called it “The War Room”.
The War Room was made up of ten extremely large
whiteboards, two for each department. Each
department used one board to write down any day-to-
day issues that could also be used to draw or explain
points in our daily or monthly meetings, and the other
was their game plan for the year.
Of course, all the preliminary investigative detail,
findings and information from each department’s
master game plan was stored and recorded by taking
photos when it was composed.
