than this and if he eats] the size of a date, it will settle the mind of Og Melech
HaBashan, [at least] a little bit. All foods combine to make up the volume of a
date, provided that they are fit to eat, but one is not liable for eating food which
is not fit to eat. Food and drink [however] do not combine together. 13

the volume of four eggs, and others say it is [the volume of] three eggs. 15

]6[ Chazal understand that in order to be liable for drinking, [one must drink]

is not the same for everyone, but rather is subjective; a larger person will have a
larger size and a smaller person, a smaller shiur. It also is different from any other
liquid measurements of the Torah which is measured in terms of a revi’is.
              However here, it is a halacha l’Moshe mi’Sinai that a person’s mind becomes a
little bit settled [when he drinks] enough to fill his cheek, which, for the average
person, is less than a revi’is. All liquids combine to make up this cheekful,
provided they are fit for drinking. 17
