“ONCE YOU START MAKING THE EFFORT TO WAKE YOURSELF UP—THAT IS, BE MORE MINDFUL IN YOUR
ACTIVITIES—YOU SUDDENLY START APPRECIATING LIFE A LOT MORE.” —ROBERT BISWAS DIENER
World Mental Health Day, celebrated on the 10th of
October, is an international day for global mental
health education, awareness and advocacy against
social stigma; to recognize the importance of this
time of the year, the Grades 11 and 12 Psychology
students of Al Waha were invited on a trip to visit a
help center. Accompanying them on the trip were
Mrs. Haniya Khan, the Psychology teacher and the
Senior School Supervisor Mrs. Shakeela Ahmed. Re-
taining and making use of the information regard-
ing mental health, they discussed different factors
that affect psychological health, such as self-esteem,
confidence and physical health, to name a few. They
conferred on how to deal with these issues and sug-
gested new ideas. This excursion supported them in
augmenting their perspective and significantly in-
creased their knowledge. One of the students shared
her point of view about the event, saying: “It broad-
ened my horizons. After the seminar was over, we
got to share our experiences, misconceptions and
thoughts. I realized how important a stable mind is
and how much effort it takes to maintain your men-
tal health.”
To conclude, no matter what obstacles life throws at
you, to emerge through them with a smile on your
face is what makes you a winner and motivates oth-
ers to incorporate positivity into their lives.
