If the called station was not ready to communicate the phrase “STANDBY” or

“WAIT” could also have been used. The meaning by that is that the receiving unit

is busy, and you shall wait on the frequency until you are called.

After the initial call, the next step in radio communication is to say a little more

about WHO you are, WHERE you are, and WHAT you want,

for example:

➢ ”Cessna 172, 2 persons on-board, parked at hangar

request departure information for a VFR flight to

Stauning”

The answer to this could be, for example:

➢ ” OTZ RWY 27 In use wind 280 grader 15 kt QNH 1012, no

reported Traffic”

7.1.1 What to be read back

Information does not need to be “read back”.

For safety reasons, you must “read back” important instructions.

These include runway in use and QNH.

When you reply back, make sure it happens in a specific order.

We could, for example, respond back to the ground unit:

➢ RWY 27 in use QNH 1012 taxi to Holding Point OTZ

We have now read back and acknowledged receipt of the message by ending the

message with our own call sign (OTZ)
