10. Priority of messages
Not all messages are equally important. An aircraft in an emergency situation
needs the radio frequency more than an aircraft that wants to get information
about the wind at the airport.
That is why a priority order has been created.
Emergency messages have the highest priority.
10.1 Priority order
The order of priority is shown below.
1. Distress messages
2. Urgent messages
3. Bearing messages
4. Safety messa ges
5. Meteorological messages
6. Regularity messages
The priority order is most easily remembered as DUBS MR (Dubs Mister).
Below are examples of messages that fall under the different priorities.
10.1.1 Distress messages
When a serious and imminent danger that requires immediate assistance
threatens, a distress message is sent.
Only the commander or his deputy can cause a distress message to be sent.
You call on the frequency you are on, or if it is not suitable, on the distress
frequency 121.5 MHz and start with the signal MAYDAY, pronounced three
times if possible.
