1 Cut a non-stick dressing and a piece of Gamgee to a size that covers the wound.
2 Attach the free end of a roll of insulating tape to the hoof wall. The hoof wall must be
VetBooks.ir clean and dry. Wind the tape round the hoof, passing below the heels to secure the lower
edge of the dressing.
3 Pass the tape round the hoof wall again. This time bring it up over the dressing then back
down onto the hoof wall.
4 Repeat 2 or 3 times until the dressing is secure.
5 Avoid direct contact between the tape and the coronary band.
6 Wind a short length of conforming cotton or crepe bandage twice round the bulbs of the
heels and the coronet.
7 Use self-adhesive or adhesive bandage to hold the dressing in place (Figure 3.23).
8 Either 7.5 or 10 cm (3 or 4 in) PVC tape can be used on top to make the dressing
waterproof.
