                                                  Degree of Comparison
Comparative adjectives are used to compare differences between the two objects they modify (larger,
smaller, faster, higher). They are used in sentences where two nouns are compared.
               1. Positive Degree
These are the simple adjectives that simply describe the noun without comparing it to another.
Form: S + to be + as adjective as + object
Example: My house is as clean as your house.
               2. Comparative Degree
Form: Noun (subject) + verb + comparative adjective + than + noun (object)
Example: This box is smaller than the one I lost.
               3. Superlative Degree
Form: Noun (subject) + verb + the + superlative adjective + noun (object)
Example: He is the cleverest boy in his class.
               Making Comparatives
               1. One-Syllable Adjectives
                   a. To make a comparative from an adjective with one syllable, we add -er to the adjective.
                      For example: fast – faster
                   b. To make a comparative from a one syllable adjective ending in -e, we just add -r.
                      For example: nice – nicer
                   c. If the one syllable adjective ends in a vowel and a consonant, we double the consonant. For
                      example: big – bigger
               2. Two-Syllable Adjectives
If the adjective has two or more syllables, we add more before the adjective. For example:
                   • This book is more expensive than that book.
               Making Superlatives
               1. One-Syllable Adjectives
                   a. To make a superlative from an adjective with one syllable, we add -est to the adjective.
                      For example: slow – slowest
                   b. To make a superlative from a one syllable adjective ending in -e, we just add -st.
                      For example: large – largest
                   c. If the one syllable adjective ends in a vowel and a consonant, we double the consonant.
                      For example: thin – thinnest
