EFFECTIVE DATE: January 2016

In any emergency the safety and security of the children and team members is of the utmost
concern. Jack & Jill Children’s Center requires that all team members act in a professional and
calm manner in the face of any emergency. Further, it is expected that all team members will
attend to the safety and security of the children throughout an emergency scenario.
Due to severe weather conditions or other emergency situations, there may be times when the
Jack & Jill Children’s Center facilities may be closed. Emergency closing is at the discretion of
the Chief Executive Officer.
Severe Weather Conditions:
In the event of severe weather conditions, Jack & Jill Children’s Center will generally follow the
School District in determining whether or not to close the centers. Team members are instructed
to listen to local radio and television stations for emergency closing information in these
circumstances.
Team members are also instructed to contact their supervisor or they may be contacted by their
assigned phone tree representative for further instructions. Team members are instructed to
contact Directors by 8 a.m. and again at 5 p.m. for further instructions.
Other Emergencies:
Other situations, including but not limited to, electrical power failure, lack of water, lack of heat
or air conditioning, hazardous road conditions, or other situations which may endanger the
safety or health of children and team members, may result in Jack & Jill Children’s Center
facilities being closed at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer. Team members will be
advised of their obligations in these situations.
In the event of emergency closing in the middle of the day, team members will be instructed by
supervisory team member as to their responsibilities during the emergency. Team members
will be required to remain at the Center as long as there are children present. This may require
team members to remain after normal closing hours. Team members must be mindful that
compliance with Licensing Regulations must be maintained even in emergency situations. Team
members will be informed by supervisory team member as to when they are able to go home.
Team members who refuse to cooperate during an emergency situation will be subject to
disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Team Member Pay during Emergency Closings
Exempt and Non-Exempt team members may not be paid for days when Jack & Jill Children’s
Center is closed due to inclement weather or other emergency situation. In the event,
emergency closing is not paid then team members may choose to use accrued paid leave time
if the wish to be paid. Team members must complete a paid leave request on or before the last
day of the pay period in which the emergency closing occurs and submit it to their supervisor.
