Certification Process
certification and recertification. During the surveillance
audit, the following items are assessed:*
1. Internal audits and management review records.
2. Actions taken on nonconformities identified
during the previous audit.
3. Handling of complaints.
4. Effectiveness of the management system with
regard to achieving the certified client's objectives.
5. Progress of planned activities aimed at continual
improvement.
6. Continuing operational control.
7. Any changes.
8. Use of marks and/or any other reference to
certification.
9. All processes and standard clauses over the two
years between initial and recertification audits.
10. Roughly half of the processes/changes of the
Standard.
More detailed information is available in the standards
documents. The documents can be obtained/
purchased from the applicable Accreditation Bodies
(i.e.: AIAG and ASQ) and some CB’s like EAGLE.
When learning about the certification process, two
important terms to understand are “Audit Cycle” and
“Certificate Cycle.” Both have similar characteristics,
but there are key differences. The following provides
the main points of difference.
