Chapter 5

               Good Business Practices

A good way to improve and strengthen a
management system is by learning from other
companies’ best practices. The following are a few
good business practices we believe can help
     strengthen any management system.

     1. Know your Customer Specific Requirements
(CSR). Maintain a current customer manual by
assigning ownership to it. Document CSRs under
        your operational guidelines (in-house product
specifications) and include them on production
paperwork. Although this is not a specific
requirement in every standard, it is a good
proven business practice. Remember, however, if
it doesn’t add value, don’t include it.

     2. Obtain top management buy-in. It is imperative
that the top management of an organization be
involved with and committed to the management
system. The lack of top management support will
make it extremely difficult to create and maintain
        a successful management system.

     3. Involve people. A great management system
requires a major group effort. It calls for the
involvement of all the people within the
organization, not just a select few.
