Chapter 4
              Comparison of GFSI Standards

The Global Food Safety Initiative promotes “once
certified, accepted everywhere” meaning that the
benchmarked standards are known and accepted
internationally, which is critical in a global
      economy.

The following provides an overview of these
      standards:

      Safe Quality Food (SQF)
SQF is designed as a food safety program, but it
also covers product quality in a separate standard,
a feature that is unique to a certification program
of this type. In today’s global economy, assuring
consistent quality and meeting buyer specifications
are important aspects of the buyer-supplier
      relationship.

SQF certification is supported by an increasing
number of U.S. and international retailers and food
service providers that express a preference for
      suppliers that implement HACCP-based (Hazard
Analysis Critical Control Point) food safety and
      quality management systems.
