SUBPROGRAMME: COMMITTEE SUPPORT
Due to the con nuous surge of COVID-19 throughout the year, as well as the short no ce of the date
of the Local Government Elec ons, the programmes of the Commi ees have been significantly
impacted during 2021/22. Several mee ngs, workshops and other commi ee ac vi es had to be
cancelled or postponed due to these programme changes. Despite these setbacks, the work of
commi ees in the WCPP which has con nued, has been effec vely and successfully executed, in
terms of procedural and administra ve support to Chairperson and the commi ees.
The ability of the Commi ees to con nue opera ng successfully via remote access for hybrid, virtual
and in-person formats, has proven to be a game-changer, together with con nuously improving
oversight and accountability over the Execu ve and its departments, under the COVID-19 situa on.
Where the programmes of commi ees were not impacted and followed, the support from the WCPP
administra on was well provided to allow successful con nuity.
Two Chairperson’s Forum mee ngs were held during the repor ng period, where chairpersons
raised ma ers pertaining to consulta ons and engagements in an a empt to seek a common
understanding of the challenges that commi ees are experiencing and how such challenges could be
addressed.
The Ad-hoc Commi ee on COVID-19 met as and when required to deal with related ma ers in the
province pertaining to compliance of protocols, planning, effect and impact on the respec ve
parliamentary commi ees and its oversight and accountability over the execu ve and its Western
Cape provincial departments during the period under review, par cularly the Department of Health.
The table below describes the ac vi es achieved by the commi ees in the 2021/22 financial year
