Page 19 - MOVING THROUGH AIR
P. 19
Father God wants us to be faithful stewards of creation by caring for the
animals around us.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review the characteristics of living creatures.
2. Read ‘Wonderful World’ by Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen, as a way of
introducing the children to the fact that God had made man to not only love
him and others but also to care for other living things. Show them how sin
made people care only for themselves and not for animals.
3. Display some pictures of endangered and extinct animals as well as a
threatened habitat such as the rainforest. Choose two or three pictures and
find out what the children know about them and help them to see how people
have been selfish and not obeyed God. Explain the terms extinct and
endangered.
4. In small groups the children could dramatise one of the situations discussed
above. Perhaps a couple could be shown to the whole class.
5. Ask the children if they could help to change things in the world now. Lead
them to see how they could begin to care for the animals around them by
feeding the birds and putting up bird and bat boxes. They can be faithful in
the small things and so grow in responsibility.
6. Complete the worksheet.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. The children will understand that God gave people the job of caring for
creation,
and to see how sin affects how we treat living creatures.
2. They should appreciate the caring nature of our Creator God for even the
smallest animal and to grasp that we were made to be like him.
