Page 15 - MOVING THROUGH AIR
P. 15
1 Timothy 6:17 ‘Command those who are rich in this present world not
to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain but
to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our
enjoyment.’
Father God maintains life on earth in an ordered way giving each creature
what it needs to eat.
Animals are linked together in a food chain, which begins with a producer, a
green plant.
Some animals eat plants and others eat other animals.
God has provided enough food for everyone but the distribution of food is
often wrong.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Introduce the topic through a quiz where the children have to guess the
animal or plant, which is preyed upon, or consumed by, those described.
These terms can be fed into the lesson at this point.
2. Review how some animals eat plants and others eat animals. Sing the nursery
song, “There was an old woman who swallowed a fly…” to reinforce this point.
(Obviously some of the song is nonsense!)
3. Illustrate how God provides for each creature in a food chain. Use
video/DVD clips to go through the food chain with the children.
grass → rabbit → fox
seaweed → snail → fish → otter→ shark
4. Consider together what would happen if there were too many foxes. Lead the
children to see God’s wisdom in the food chain because it prevents one animal
from taking over. Can they think of how people could spoil a food chain?
5. Talk about the greed of some nations and the needs of others.
