Page 11 - MOVING THROUGH AIR
P. 11
2 Thessalonians 1:3 ‘We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly
so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has
for each other is increasing.’
Father God wants, and helps, people to grow up to become like Jesus - to
bring other people into his family so that it will grow too.
God has created all living things to begin life immature and then to grow and
develop into a mature form which can reproduce itself.
Growth involves an increase in size, and development involves changes in the
physical appearance.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Hold up a baby-gro, a child’s pair of pyjamas and an adult’s pair of pyjamas.
Ask for a volunteer to put each item on and then establish the simple point
that we all grow until we reach our adult size.
2. Introduce a baby (ideally a brother or sister of one of the class) and again
note the size difference between the baby and the other children.
Ask if there any other differences between themselves and the baby. Ask
whether there are things that adults can do that they cannot.
Direct them to see that our bodies, brains and skills develop as we grow up.
3. Using visual aids (photos, videos, living things!) illustrate the point that all
life grows and develops. God has made every living plant and animal to begin
life smaller and immature so that it has to grow up and become mature. Only
then can it reproduce (make another like itself).
4. Show the children a picture of yourself and then show them a picture of
Jesus. Introduce the concept that just as we will all grow and develop so
that we become bigger and able to do more, so Father God wants us to
become more like Jesus. Consider what he might want us to grow in. (Love,
faith, understanding of God, etc.) Then think about what he might develop in
us (gifts of the spirit, fruit of the spirit).
