Truth to Teach (Source)
Matthew 6:11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread.’
Matthew 6:25-26 ‘Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what
you will eat or drink. Is not life more important than food…?’
God is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider.
People can eat a huge range of food, including plants and animals, and they eat
them in a variety of creative ways.
Anything which cannot be digested or is harmful is removed from the body.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Listen to, or sing, a version of the Lord’s Prayer. We are encouraged to ask
Him for our food, to depend on Him as our Father. Introduce His name
Jehovah Jireh - God our Provider.
2. God is faithful and provides lots of food. Ask the children what happens if
we do not eat. Lead the children to see that food is vital for growth and for
energy to work and play. Just as a car needs petrol as fuel to make it go, so
we need food as our fuel to give us energy to work and play.
3. Show the children a piece of raw meat or fish and ask whether anyone is
hungry! A lion would like this but we would not. Offer some cooked sausages
and note that people can eat meat but that they are creative in the way they
cook the meat. Ask for some ideas.
Show the children a piece of wheat and ask for suggestions of what people
do with it. Establish that people can eat plants and that mostly the plants are
cooked first.
4. Can anyone spot another difference between people and other living things?
(All living things need food but only people show creativity in their eating.)
5. Finally, God has provided us with a way of removing food that we cannot
digest (get energy from). It is going to the toilet. That is good otherwise we
