Overview of Y2 Summer Term

Week 7: A story from a picture or given the beginning of a story, completing it

Talk about a picture with the children giving them ideas of how to plan their story.
Alternatively, give the children the first line or two of a story for them to complete.

Week 8: Writing a letter of appreciation to their fathers for Father’s Day

Show the children how to lay out a letter and emphasise the need to write neatly and
to give their best to serve the reader.

            Week 9: A patterned poem

Creator and Creation: God’s handiwork speaks of the uniqueness of its Creator, who
does all things well, and who wants us to do all things well too.

See EW Lesson 2, Crafting Words, for guidance on how to write a poem based on
‘Sun’ by Steve Turner in ‘The Day I Fell Down the Toilet’ published by Lion Children’s
            Books. ISBN 0-7459-3640-7

Alternatively, use the poem ‘What is Pink?’ by Christina G. Rossetti.
Prior to the writing lesson, read through this poem together, appreciating it and the
skill, with which it has been written. God has made a colourful world for us to enjoy
            and thank him for.

              - Ask the children to pair up, and give each pair a colour. Give them a few minutes
to think of other things, which are always blue or yellow, etc.
              - Gather back together and list these in coloured chalk on the board.

              - Using the same pattern as the original, ask the children to write their own poem,
using describing words and trying to make interesting lines. For example:
                  What is blue?
Tiny forget-me-nots in my garden are blue.
                  What is red?

Round, ripe tomatoes are deliciously red.
                  Etc.

            - The children could finish with the line

Thank you God for creating colours!
