Overview of Y2 Spring Term Part 1
            4. When God began to create the world, it was first of all dark, empty, and with no
shape. Then God started to bring order to it, separating day from night, sea from
land, forest from desert, etc. and by the time he had finished it was beautiful.

Ask what that tells us about God and how he works. (He likes to bring order and a
                 wise arrangement to things.)

            5. God has made our brains in such a way that they appreciate and seek out order.

(Perhaps refer to some children who enjoy tidying up. When X puts all her
equipment neatly away after using it, she is bringing order to her desk, and showing
she has a Godly love of order too.)

When an author arranges information in an orderly way like this, it is not only about
making the page look attractive, but it is also about helping people find out more
about a particular topic. It is about a way of serving them. It’s about lay-out for
                 learning.

            * (Another feature of non-fictional writing is its impersonal style. The author does not
write ‘my body’ or ‘your body’. Can anyone spot what sort of word is used instead?
(‘every human’, ‘people’, ‘a person’s’, ‘someone’s’) It may be appropriate to share

this for those children who can appreciate it.)

            6. Let the children complete the worksheet.

        Learning for Life (Fulfilment

            1. The children will have become more familiar with features of non-fiction writing.

            2. They will know that God is orderly and he brings his own order out of chaos.

            3. The children should know that when they bring order to information or indeed to
anything, they are reflecting God’s appreciation of order, and serving other people.
