3. Explain that ‘isles’ mean ‘islands’. Talk about the four countries which make up the
British Isles. Tell the children about Ireland being divided into north and south.
4. Let the children put large labels of the countries and capitals on the map.
England - London
N. Ireland – Belfast
Wales – Cardiff
Scotland – Edinburgh
5. Let the children look for the rivers and mountains, coasts, etc. Ask them to find where
we live.
6. If time allows, a short video/DVD of parts of one or more of the countries could be
shown.
7. Let the children complete the worksheet. Show the children how to colour around the
coastline neatly with blue and add any other detail required according to the ability
of the children.
8. End by thanking God for our nation.

1. The children should have a sense of gratitude for the nation we live in.
2. The children should be able to identify the four UK countries, the capital cities and
main rivers and mountains.

Just as each person is unique, so too each nation is distinct. This diversity is a
reflection of God’s love of variety and of his heart for nations to serve and
compliment each other.
The countries which make up the UK are different and distinct.
God’s heart is that nations cooperate not compete with each other.
