Tips for effective meetings

                  • Only hold a meeting if necessary.
                  • All meetings must have clear goals/objectives.
                  • Invite a neutral facilitator to meetings where sensitive issues will be discussed.
                  • All meetings must have an agenda (with time allocations).
                  • Distribute pre-meeting information.
                  • Meetings must start on time.
                  • People need to be prepared and participate positively.
                  • Minutes must be kept.
                  • Review the effectiveness of the meeting openly and record this.
                  • Use active listening skills.
                  • Keep it simple and action orientated.
                  • People need to be trained.
                  • People need to be rewarded.

                           Activity 2.3

Which of the tips just listed does your club/federation use?

Keep it simple and action orientated
This is an important point, as too many meetings become over-complicated,
which results in very few actions. The reason for having a meeting is for some
action to take place after it.

                           Activity 2.4

Look at the example action-orientated minutes template in Appendix 2.
