Activity 1.4
Were you aware that the Oceania region is represented by the ONOC and OPC?
Roles and responsibilities of the NOCs in the Pacific
The broad roles and responsibilities of the NOCs are to:
• promote the principles of Olympism at the national level for sport in each
country
• develop both athletes and sport for all programs, including high performance
sport, in their countries. They also train sports administrators by organising
educational programs
• ensure that athletes from their respective nations attend the Olympic Games.
Only an NOC is able to select and send teams and competitors to the Olympic
Games
• supervise the preliminary selection of bid cities in its own country. The NOC can
then name that city to the IOC as a candidate to host the Olympic Games.
Activity 1.5
