Staffing requirements
Overall
All staff members are part-time, with the centre manager being employed for 25
hours per week and the centre staff averaging 6 hours per week.
Staff breakdown
• Centre manager.
• 5 Department of Fitness, Sport and Recreation teaching staff.
• 15 final year Diploma of Sport and Recreation students (qualified as fitness
leaders and personal trainers).
Qualifications
The centre manager and senior staff must all hold a relevant degree qualification
and practical experience. Volunteer (student) staff are required to hold the
Certificate IV in Fitness Centre Operations, which includes aspects of financial
management, first aid, customer service, personal training and exercise testing/
prescription.
Job analysis
The centre manager is to develop specific position descriptions for all staff and
conduct 3 monthly performance appraisals using specific key performance
indicators and performance criteria.
Staff training
As a result of staff appraisals and consultation with the staff members, individual
professional development plans will be developed, implemented and reviewed
every 3 months. The teaching staff will provide most of this training in-house.
Staff roster
The centre manager, in close consultation with all staff, will develop and post the
roster on a monthly basis.
Insurance for staff
As the facility is part of the Wide Bay TAFE, all staff are covered by the relevant
insurance provided to all TAFE staff.
