Our research team interviewed two teachers in Singapore Korean International
School as a qualitative method. Ms. Chalsea, the geography teacher, mentioned
the efficiency of the top-down method. She emphasized the point that it is not a
simple task to control every single person’s consuming pattern so limiting or
regulating the production of plastic products is the most efficient way to control
the plastic usage at consumer level. Also, she strongly agreed with the point that
the major cause of current environmental issues is plastic wastes. She gave us
advice on our contrived solutions for current environmental issues. She highlighted
the point that the paper straws are yet processed and they are not perfectly
biodegradable. She gave us an example of the alternative material used to replace
the plastic straws, Sa Cay Lemongrass. She mentioned that the regulation on the
plastic bags in the supermarket would be most effective due to the scale of the
people affected and existing alternatives such as paper bags would not replace
every benefit of the plastic.
Our research team could acquire data related to the preferences of consumers via
survey. As mentioned in chapter 3, the survey's first question was about the public
preference on the measures to solve our environmental problem. Our question was
“Which one do you think is the best way to reduce plastic wastes?”
The majority (71.4%) of the people prefered regulation on the production of plastic
products at industrial level and 28.6% of the people responded that regulation on
