3. Experimental methods & materials
Through the literature review, our research team could assume that the
regulation on the use of plastics at consumer level would be effective. Also, various
target products of regulation could be found. Our research team acknowledged
the experts’ view on the method contrived was needed before we confirm that the
regulation on the use of plastics by the consumers as the most effective solution
for current environmental pollution. Since the experts are able to provide some
advice on the regulation contrived by our research, our research team decided to
interview an expert who is related to geography. Our research team interviewed a
teacher in Singapore Korean International School, Ms. Chalsea. We asked her about
the effectiveness of the policy. Also, we asked about the effectiveness of the
regulation on each product. Through the interview, we could get qualified
information which helped us to narrow down the target product of the regulation
and help our research team to reinforce the policy.
Quantitative research on the preference of the majority was required to test the
implementability of the each solutions contrived by our research team. Our research
team asked a question to get public preference on the measures to solve our
environmental problem and there were three options provided, regulation on the
production of plastic products at industrial level, regulation on the use of plastic
products at consumer level, having no regulation. Our research team expected to
get public preference data from this question. Our next question was about public
preference on the target products and regulating method. There were four options,
which are the four solutions contrived by our research team. We expect to test the
implementability of each solution. Lastly, we asked the question related to the
reaction of the public. Since the regulations are affecting people’s lifestyle, the
public’s reaction on the regulation is crucial. We expected to test the
implementability of the solution by analyzing people’s answers on this question.
